February marks the beginning of our Grand Slam series. Our Grand Slam consists of our four major tournaments of the year: The Mixed Doubles, Doubles and Singles Club Championships as well as The Steeg Member Guest. We will be kicking the series off on February 15th with The Mixed Doubles Club Championships. The Mixed Doubles Club Championships has always been a fun format. Last year we had 30 entries and this year we hope to increase the entries to 45.

The event finishes up on the evening of Friday, February 24th with all of the championship matches as well as the Player’s Party and pro exhibition. I hope all of our tennis players will mark their calendars, find a partner and come out for some fun and competitive matches! If you need help finding a partner, the tennis staff would be happy to assist you.
The second tournament of the series is The Steeg Member Guest which will be April 13th – 15th. As most of you know, this is the premier tournament of the year and this is due to the support of our sponsors. Without the sponsors, we would not have the budget to put on a tournament of this size with such an inexpensive entry fee! Although the tournament is still two months away, the Tournament Committee headed by Lani Baruch, has been working very hard on the details. Thank you very much to her and the rest of the committee! Our main focus has been on putting together the sponsor list. If you know anyone that may be interested in supporting this event and getting some valuable club advertisements we still have availability at all levels. Speaking of the Tennis Committee, there is a change in our leadership. Captain Matt Tuohy is stepping down after three great years of support and service to the Tennis Committee. I would like to thank Matt and his lovely wife Susan for all that they have done for the tennis program. We are very fortunate to have members like the Tuohys at the Club. I would like to welcome our new Chairman, Brad Berg. Although Brad is not an active tennis player, he is seen at most of our events as his lovely wife Stacey is a very active player, therefore, Brad is very familiar with the program. I look forward to a very successful year working with The Bergs!
I would like to welcome back to our staff our great friend, Cheri Holesko! Cheri will be responsible for the pro shop merchandising and will be focusing on bringing in more FYC logo merchandise as well as maintaining a high quality of tennis apparel and accessories. If you have any requests or input on items that you would like to see in stock, please see me or Cheri. Your input is very important to us! The staff is very excited to have Cheri back on our team!

Due to the increase in play on the courts, it is important the following rules apply:
1. You may reserve courts 48 hours in advance.
2. You may request a court, but may not necessarily get the court you requested. The tennis staff will do their best to honor your request, but may need to assign a different court according to maintenance, teaching schedules, team matches, and events.
3. Court reservations are for 1 1/2 hours. You may play longer if the court is not booked after you. The staff will do their best to make sure the courts are not booked on top of each other.
4. You must sign in at the pro shop before going on court. If you have a court reserved during a time when the pro shop is closed, the staff will let you know your court assignment and you can go straight to that court.
5. All guests must be signed in before they go on court!
