Wednesday Night J-24 Racing
If you’ve been at the Club on a Wednesday night and looked out at the river over the past several months,
you probably saw the J-24 Fleet 55 in action. Since mid-April, an average of eight boats have been
participating in the annual Wednesday Summer Series hosted by the Club. With twelve boats in Fleet 55,
this has become one of the most competitive J-24 Summer Racing Series in the country. Many of the boats
are participating in regional, national or world events and The Florida Yacht Club continues to be put on the
world map for J-24 events. The Club has hosted the National Championships in 2007 and the Southeast
Regional Championships for the last two years. Earlier this year, it was our great honor to be awarded the
2012 J-24 North American Championship which is a step above nationals! With all of these successes, one
can see that the traditional Wednesday Night Beer Can Races have progressed into a highly competitive
and fun Wednesday Sailing Series. On
the first and third Wednesdays of the
month, races count for “Boat of the Year”
points while the other nights count for participation points.
We are always looking to expand the fleet and teach new sailors “the ropes.”
Please let Ryland or myself know if you are interested in participating or
spectating. We will be out on the water every Wednesday until mid-September.
If anyone is interested, we can set up a Thursday night clinic to familiarize
participants with the boats. Also, if you would be interested in helping us with
Race Committee work, please contact Ryland at the Club

Attention Boaters!!!
The U.S. Marine and Wildlife Division (Federal Government) has
placed manatee markers along the shoreline of the St. Johns River.
These markers have been placed 300 feet from land, and require "Slow"
or "No Wake" speed within the designated area. Please be aware of
these markers and use good judgment when approaching. These
markers officially end at the Ortega River Bridge. If you have any
questions, please feel free to contact me at 387-9683 ext. 414.
